At Swinefleet we take in to account our local context and the challenges faced by people and children living and growing up in a 21st century world. We design our curriculum around these ever changing needs complying with the New National Curriculum.
At the very heart of our curriculum is the need to support the children’s emotional well-being with high levels of care, trust and mutual respect. We aim to create an ethos that values and celebrates the achievements of every child so that they can feel happy, safe and secure and valued in order to develop the self-esteem to ‘nourish their thinking minds.’
Our children are currently growing in a world where constantly developing modern technology means they need to be able to review and adapt continually. In order to prepare our children for the ever changing world of work we want to help them develop a range of key skills that can apply in a range of situations.
Our focus will therefore be on developing the following key areas;
Developing a confidence in speaking, reading, writing and key spelling and grammatical skills.
Application of Number
Developing a confidence in using a range of mental maths strategies and understanding key vocabulary. Using and applying these skills in real life situations and solving problems
As they grow our children will need to be confident in using a range of information sources and ICT tools to find, analyse, interpret, evaluate and present information for a range of purposes.
Working with others
Helping the children to work collaboratively with others to meet a range of challenges. We want them to have the opportunity to share what they know and benefit from the experience of others.
Improving own learning and performance
We want our children to be able to think critically about their own work and development needs in order for them to develop a lifelong commitment to learning and improving.
Because the children will encounter a whole range of problems as they go through life we want them to be confident in facing new challenges. We want our children to be able to respond to these challenges to plan, test, modify and review progress needed to achieve particular outcomes.
We also believe it is important to develop:
Awareness of their sense of community, who they are, where they live, on a local, national and international footing.
Respect for and an understanding of the cultural diversity of the global community.
An understanding of the need to preserve the world in which we live and be aware of their own environmental impact.
Cultural awareness and appreciation for literature, music and art.
An understanding of history, time and place.
